http://thisismynext.com/2011/06/13/icloud-apple-strategy-flaw/ The post by @joshuatopolsky leaves a lot to be contradicted. But I guess the point that forced me to write this post was the following:
… but the company seems to have forgotten the one big piece he talks about towards the end — the web front-end for these services. Instead of pulling up the stakes here, Apple should be doubling down. The internet is not just going to go away.
Please note the following:
- The Web and the Internet and are not one and the same. Do not use them in the same breath and interchangeably as if they are.
- Apple’s canvas is the screen/device while Google’s is the Browser (Web)
- Apple would want every user to have an iPhone, iPad and Macs. Not giving a web front end is a smart move to augment that. Not saying a good move, but smart for sure.
- Apple has never once formally said these features are being cut off or that they are NOT going to build a web version.
When I need to access music with my Rdio account, I can do it from a plain old web browser, or an Android, iOS, or even BlackBerry application — and the ability to shift between those portals is incredibly powerful.
Only Apple is not in the business of selling softwares, at least that is not their prime focus.
there is no photo sharing service for iOS or the Mac which is as flexible or accessible as Flickr
Instagram. Growing stronger as we discuss.
Why not add cloud-based Pages and Numbers. Give us group editing, bring all those new Mail features online.
All of the above can be brought in existing products without building a web front end.
